  • Army Residence Community benefits from energy-saving project

    SAN ANTONIO - The Army Residence Community is benefiting from a city-sponsored, energy-saving project. Each of the 189 units at the community for retired military was included in a first-of-its-kind retrofitting project. Mary Lynne Montgomery, an Army Residence Community resident, said the upgrade was simple and painless. "We opened the garage door and they did the rest. We didn' have to do anything," she said.

Forecasters predict this summer will be hotter than 2012 and consequently, air conditioners will go into overdrive resulting in increased energy consumption.   • Get Ready for Summer to Manage Energy Use and Bills

    Despite recent rains, Texas remains in a drought and forecasts for a warmer than normal summer are expected to lead to utility bills that are nine percent higher than in the summer of 2012. The average CPS Energy customer is expected to buy 1,615 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per month from June through September, resulting in a bill of $167.34. That is an increase of $13.61 from the previous summer.

  • Home Manager Offers Customers Mobile App for Smart Phones and Tablets

    CPS Energy customers with the Home Manager energy management system can now control their energy use anytime, anywhere, with any smart device. A new mobile app and tablet interface is now available for the free system. Home Manager is an energy management system that allows CPS Energy customers to control and monitor the energy used by HVAC systems, water heaters, and pool pumps.

    For Carol Patterson, it was a $367.83 electric bill during the blisteringly hot summer of 2011 that convinced her she needed to do something to make her home more energy efficient. Patterson, who serves on the Edwards Aquifer Authority's board of directors, had always been interested in conservation and water management, but power usage hadn't been a topic close to mind.
